Custom Stocks & Bespoke Gunsmithing
Roan Mountain, TN

Some firearms aren't a repair job they're a commission. Whether you're a collector preserving a piece with real history, a big game hunter who wants a rifle built for one specific trip, or someone who simply wants a stock made to fit no one else's hands but yours, 2nd Amendment Arts takes on bespoke work as its own discipline, separate from routine gunsmithing. As a licensed Class 2 SOT / FFL 07 manufacturer, we build, not just repair.

What Bespoke Work Involves:

Commissioned stockmaking starts with wood exhibition-grade walnut or a blank you already own shaped, checkered, and inletted to fit the shooter and the action, then glass bedded for accuracy. Personalization work ranges from engraving and inlay to matching a stock's lines to a specific rifle's heritage or a client's own design brief.

Collector-grade restoration is a related but distinct discipline:

Preserving a historically significant firearm's original finish and character rather than defaulting to a full refinish that would reduce its value. This is the same careful approach behind our post-Hurricane Helene restoration work, where we restored more than 70 water-damaged firearms including pieces where preserving originality mattered as much as functional repair.

How a Commission Works:

Bespoke work starts with a conversation, not a walk-in appointment. We talk through the vision, the intended use (a specific hunt, a collection, a family heirloom being restored for the next generation), timeline, and budget range before any wood is cut. From there we source or confirm materials, walk through design decisions together, and provide progress photos as the piece takes shape. Final fitting happens in person whenever possible.

See the Work:

[Gallery placeholder insert 8-12 photos here once available: finished custom stocks showing wood grain and checkering detail, before/after restoration pairs, and close-ups of engraving or inlay work. This kind of visual proof matters more to this buyer than almost any paragraph of copy prioritize adding it even before the writing above is finalized.]

Why Choose 2nd Amendment Arts:

Most gunsmiths repair firearms. As a Class 2 SOT / FFL 07, we manufacture them which means bespoke stockmaking and custom builds aren't an occasional side project, they're licensed, core work. Combined with a track record of carefully preserving historically significant firearms rather than over-refinishing them, that's the difference between a shop that can fix a stock and one that can be trusted to build or restore a piece that matters.

We also welcome introductions from taxidermists, outfitters, estate handlers, and insurance appraisers who work with high-value firearms if you know someone who needs this kind of work done right, we're glad to talk with them directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take commissions built around a specific hunt or occasion?

Yes tell us about the trip, the rifle, and the timeline, and we'll work backward from your date.

Can you match a specific wood grain or use an exhibition-grade blank I already own?

Yes, bring your own blank or let us help you source one; either way we'll walk through grain, figure, and fit before cutting anything.

Will restoring my heirloom or collector rifle affect its value?

Done carelessly, yes. We assess every collector piece individually and aim to preserve original finish and character whenever it's structurally sound to do so, rather than defaulting to a full refinish.

Do you work with insurance appraisers on high-value pieces?

Yes call to discuss your piece and we can coordinate documentation with your appraiser as needed.

How long does a custom stock commission take?

It depends on complexity and current commission volume timelines are discussed and agreed on during your initial consultation, not quoted sight unseen.
